Statement from ASU President Michael M. Crow on 2019 State Budget
We are pleased with the budget outcome for higher education this session. We appreciate the support of the Legislature and Gov. Ducey with the allocation of new dollars to support Arizona resident students and the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership. Additionally, funding to support an office in Mexico in partnership with a public university will enhance efforts already underway to encourage trade, economic development and cultural exchange and support public policy development affecting Mexico and the United States.
While there is more for the state to do in terms of supporting access to higher education for Arizona students, the FY19 budget does assist with the continued enhancement of the ASU enterprise model. Also critical to the sustainability of this model is continued flexibility and freedom from the Legislature to operate in new and innovative ways to generate revenue for the university and expand access and opportunity for Arizona residents. We appreciate the Legislature’s and Gov. Ducey’s support in that regard this session as well.
